Public School Enrollment and Transfer Procedures
Children may be enrolled in kindergarten if they reach their fifth birthday by December 31st of the year of enrollment. Typically, children are enrolled in the first grade if they reach their sixth birthday by December 31st of the year of enrollment; however, local school boards may make exceptions for qualified fiveyearolds. To enroll a child, parents must provide a birth certificate as proof of age; a settlement paper or mortgage document as proof of residency; and proof of immunization for DPT, polio, measles and rubella. Transfer students must have their previous school records sent to their new school. If this is not possible prior to enrollment, they are asked to furnish as much academic information as possible.
